The Journey Begins

How to Receive What's Ahead

I wrote this book for you. Chances are we've never met, though this book is in your hands for a good reason.

Something brought you here to receive this message at this exact moment. Maybe a sense that you are meant for something greater or a longing you can't quite name. Maybe intuition, simple curiosity, or a recommendation from a friend. Perhaps a sense of disconnection or pain and you are now seeking a different path. Whatever it is, I'm glad you are here.

My mission in the world is simple, helping people become the highest and clearest expression of love they are meant to be. This book is to help you remember your true self, to clear away anything that blocks the light inside you. It is a map with a simple path to awakening. Though simple, the journey of awakening and living as love is not easy.

Ahead you will find 19 of my original poems, the deeper teachings they hold, and practices to guide your awakening. This work began as cathartic writing during years of my own healing and working with members in my holistic practice. Each poem arrived in a moment of struggle, breakthrough, or serene meditation. As I explored emotions and challenges through writing, something amazing happened. After expressing issues or questions in the first part of a poem, I always felt an energy come through that inspired solutions, spiritual teachings, and healing. I believe each poem is infused with a transmission of loving energy from the Creator.

Throughout this journey, I use the words God, Source, Creator, and love interchangeably. In my understanding, the Creator IS pure, unconditional, universal love. Universal love is the Source of everything. It is the vibration, light, or energy of life and consciousness itself. Universal love is the energy I invite you to know throughout this journey and it is the only energy I work with.

The destination of this journey is oneness with our Creator, living as unique expressions of the Creator's love. To be one with the Creator we must be in perfect alignment with its pure, universal love.

Everything in these pages comes from my own experience, offered as doorways to explore, not doctrine to accept. I've spent 26 years studying energy healing and over a decade working with patients as a Doctor of Chiropractic in Fort Worth, where I run Evolve Holistic Center. In my own life, and in the lives of many I've served, I have seen the principles and practices I offer work wonders. Still, your discoveries are yours to make. Your journey of awakening and the way love creates through you is unique.

You don't have to agree with my philosophy to benefit from this book. If you come from a religious tradition, nothing here needs to conflict with that. If you've left religion behind, nothing here requires you to go back. If you don't believe in a Creator or you're uncertain what you believe, that's welcome too. The only thing I ask is that you consider what I share and trust your own inner knowing.

A Few Suggestions Before You Begin

Take your time. While you may decide to read straight through, I recommend working with the practices at a pace of one chapter per week. This isn't information to consume; it's transformation to integrate. Let each chapter sit with you, do the practices more than once, and notice what shifts before moving on. Don't feel like you need to memorize the practices to be successful with them. Use the book as a constant guide as long as you need.

Journal your thoughts. Each chapter has reflection questions to guide you deeper. I suggest keeping a journal to write your answers. Later in the journey, look back and notice what has shifted.

Trust your body. Throughout this book, I'll ask you to feel, to notice sensations, to listen to your gut. When I ask where in your body you feel something, pause and actually feel. The body has a wisdom of its own. You will learn to listen to its lessons and discover its needs.

Emotions are welcome. If you cry, that is release. If anger, grief, sadness, or fear arise, they can show you what you need to explore. You may discover many kinds of unexpressed emotions. Feeling becomes the fuel for deeper transformation. Embrace it.

Be gentle with yourself. This journey will show you patterns, old wounds, and beliefs running quietly in the background. When you see them, try not to judge yourself. You've been doing the best you can with what you know, and now you're learning something new.

Honor your limits. Some teachings and practices go deep. If you find yourself overwhelmed, it is not failure; it may simply mean your system needs more support than a book alone can provide. Working with a therapist, somatic practitioner, or other holistic practitioner alongside this material is sometimes exactly what's needed.

Let's begin. Wherever you are right now is the right place to start. You might be exhausted, carrying pain, or have the quiet conviction that nothing you've tried has worked. Start anyway. If you're already feeling whole, connected, and at peace, this work can guide you even further to living as love.

This journey is organized into four phases, each building on the one before. You don't have to understand the whole map before you start walking. Just take the first step. As your perspective shifts, the map becomes clearer.

Phase One: Foundation

This phase establishes the ground you'll stand on for the rest of the journey.

Chapter 1: You're Not Broken You are more than your body, more than your mind. You are a whole, perfect soul experiencing life in human form. That which you truly are cannot be broken.

Chapter 2: Get Up Again Life will knock you down, it’s part of the journey. Discover how to find gifts and lessons in the setbacks and rise with new perspectives.

Chapter 19: The Master Plan Bringing it all together. Love, forgive, and know I Am.

Chapter One

You're Not Broken

Life can seem impossible
It takes all that you are
Like an avalanche, unstoppable,
Like jumping for a rising bar

You keep trying to fix yourself
But can’t seem to find what’s wrong.
You know you have to fix yourself
Maybe you’re not strong enough.

Enough!
You are enough.

Enough of this!
You’re so much more than this.
So, stop trying to fix
What is not broken.

You’re not broken,
You’re just not finished yet.
No, you’re not broken,
Just not your whole self yet

Before a dragonfly takes first flight
It takes on fifteen forms
For each stage of life, a shape that’s right
Two years before the dragon’s born

Every stage of change perfection
Each one closer to flight
Its nature is evolution
Guided by an inner light

You don’t need a solution for your evolution
Trust your inner light.
You don’t need to repair, it’s time to prepare,
You’re about to take flight.

So don't try to fix
What is not broken.

You’re not broken,
You’re just not finished yet.
No, you’re not broken,
Just not your whole self yet
You’re not broken
Trust your inner light
You’re not broken
You just haven’t taken flight.

You don’t need a solution for your evolution
Trust your guiding light
You don't need to repair, it's time to prepare.
You’re about to take flight.

If it feels like you’re falling
Then spread your wings and fly!

You’re not broken
Spread your wings and fly!

The Deeper Meaning

Maybe you've tried everything. Read the books, done the programs, seen the therapists, the doctors, the healers. Maybe you've spent years, even decades, searching for what's wrong with you so you can finally fix it and get on with your life.

If that sounds familiar, I want to speak directly to the part of you that's exhausted from all that searching.

Or maybe you're just beginning to ask questions, sensing that there's more to who you are than what you've been told. Wherever you're starting from, I want to tell you something that might be hard to hear at first, but I believe it will set you free:

You're not broken. You never were.

I know that might sound like a platitude. I've sat with hundreds of people over the years who carry a particular kind of weariness—the weariness of someone who has been trying to fix themselves for so long that they've forgotten what it feels like to just be. If that's where you are, I want to offer you a way to interrupt that pattern at its root. Not by pretending everything is fine, not by denying your pain, but by shifting your understanding of who and what you really are.

The Trap of Trying to Fix Yourself

There's a strange irony at the heart of most self-improvement: the very act of trying to fix yourself reinforces the belief that you're broken.

Every new diet, every new therapy, every new program carries an implicit message that you're not okay as you are, that you need to change. Growth and change are beautiful, and physical and mental healing are necessary at times, yet there can be a constant push to chase healing rooted in the belief that your current self is fundamentally flawed.

I watch people get caught in this loop all the time. They try something new, feel hopeful for a while, then hit a wall and conclude that they must be more broken than they thought. So they try something else, and something else, each attempt reinforcing the original belief that something is wrong with them.

What you believe isn't just a thought within your own mind. Your mind broadcasts vibrational frequencies. This is energy carrying the information of your thoughts into the field of creation. What you believe about yourself creates a powerful energetic attraction that draws in experiences and people who resonate at a similar frequency. The power of your emotions amplifies this attraction.

A deeply held belief is much more than an active, passing thought. It behaves like a quiet, constant resonance—a baseline state of being that ripples beneath the surface of your awareness. It seems to operate continuously in the background, subtly directing the flow of your life. When you shift this background resonance, you shift what you project into the world.

If you hold the belief "I am broken," you broadcast the energy of that belief into everything around you, and life, always the perfect mirror, delivers experiences that match. You attract practitioners who focus on what's wrong with you. You attract situations that confirm your brokenness. Not because you're doing something wrong, but because you're vibrating at the frequency of brokenness, and the universe responds accordingly.

This is why the foundation matters so much. When you approach change from "I'm broken and need to be fixed," you build on sand. When you approach it from "I'm whole and I'm evolving," you build on rock.

Who You Really Are

So if you're not a body or mind that needs fixing, what are you?

Your body can be injured, ill, and in pain. Your mind can be challenged, traumatized, and stuck in survival mode, replaying old patterns, seeing a distorted reality shaped by past pain. But here's the deeper truth: you are not your body, and you are not your mind. You are a soul, a whole and perfect expression of the Source, temporarily experiencing life as a physical form.

When you identify as your body, you feel broken when your body is damaged. When you identify as your mind, you feel broken when your mind is struggling. However, when you remember what you truly are, when you recognize that you are consciousness itself having a human experience, you realize that the deepest you cannot be broken. The soul isn't a thing that can be damaged. It is awareness itself.

When I say you're "not your whole self yet" I'm speaking of the fractured sense of self that believes it is a separate individual cut off from its maker. When we remember our connection with Source, we remember our wholeness.

This isn't spiritual bypassing and I don't mean you should ignore what needs healing. It means to do what needs to be done with a deeper knowing that you are still whole, complete, and perfect. Your body can hurt, and you are still whole. Your mind can struggle, and your essence is still perfect. Both are true at the same time.

What the Dragonfly Taught Me

Years ago, I was given a beautiful mosaic dragonfly that hangs on the wall in my practice to this day. I've always been fascinated by these creatures, so I began to research their significance and spiritual symbolism. What I found changed how I understand human transformation.

Before a dragonfly becomes the flying marvel we see, it passes through fifteen forms. Fifteen. It starts as an egg, becomes a nymph, living underwater for two years, looking nothing like the creature it will become. It goes through molt after molt, shedding its skin and transforming its shape.

At each stage of this process, the nymph isn't failing to be a dragonfly. It's not broken. It's a perfect expression of exactly what it needs to be at that moment in its growth.

The nymph doesn't try to fix itself into a dragonfly. It simply follows its nature, trusting the inner light that guides its development, allowing each stage to unfold in its own time. When the moment finally comes to climb out of the water, shed its skin to its final form, and spread its wings, it isn't a solution to a problem. It's the natural culmination of a process that was never broken to begin with.

I think about this often when I'm working with someone who feels stuck, who feels like they've been struggling forever and can't understand why they haven't "figured it out." What if there's nothing to figure out? Maybe you're not stuck, but transforming. What if what looks like failure is actually preparation?

What if you are on the edge of your first flight, and what's being asked of you is the willingness to become who you're called to be? Perhaps the pain is a calling to remember your nature and greater purpose.

When the Ground Shifts

There may come a moment, maybe you're in it right now, when everything feels like it's dissolving, like the ground beneath you has shifted and you're falling.

I'll never forget what I learned in a lecture from Caroline Myss. One of the most transformative prayers, dangerous to the life you are currently living, is "God, show me your face." When you begin to ask for the ultimate truth and seek to know yourself and your maker, it requires everything that is in the way to be removed.

What looks like everything falling apart is often everything falling into place in ways you can't see yet.

This is where trust is everything. Trust that the same Source that brought you this far is still holding you, even when you can't feel the ground. The winds of love are always there, waiting to catch you. They only ask that you be willing to let go.

You're not broken. You never were. Trust your inner light, spread your wings, and fly.

The Practice: Grounding and Creating an Anchor

An anchor is a programmable tool: a physical gesture your body learns to associate with a particular inner state. Once the association is set, the gesture becomes a doorway back to that state whenever you need it. Throughout this book we'll create anchors for different states along the journey. The first anchor is to a state of calm, centered peace and ease.

Your nervous system needs to feel safe before anything deeper can land. When your system is stuck in survival mode, change and growth are unlikely. So, you'll settle your nervous system first, then anchor the presence and peace that emerge.

Setting the Space

Find a quiet place where you won't be disturbed. Sit or lie down comfortably. You might light a candle, play soft music, or simply create a small ritual of care that signals to your body: this time is for you. The external environment matters less than your intention to be present with yourself.

Grounding

Grounding is the foundation of everything we'll do together in this book. Before the nervous system can soften, before the heart can open, before you can receive any higher state of energy, it's best to be present and grounded.

If you can, step outside and place your bare feet on grass, soil, wood, sand, or stone. The earth has a settling effect that is both physical and energetic. It reminds the body of what it has always known: you belong here. If there's a tree nearby, rest a hand on its trunk and let yourself feel its steady presence. Trees are grounded beings. Simply being in contact with one invites the same stillness in you.

If you're indoors, sit or lie down and feel the weight of your body against whatever supports you. Notice gravity doing its quiet, constant work: holding you to the earth, holding the earth in its orbit, holding you without effort or demand. You don't have to do anything to be held. You already are.

Bring your attention to your breath. Don't try to change it yet, just notice it. Feel the air moving into your body, the gentle rise and fall. Let your awareness move through your body: the weight of your hands, the warmth of your skin, the places that are tense, the places that are soft. You aren't trying to fix anything; you are simply being present with what is.

Say silently or aloud: "I am here. I am supported. I belong."

Notice what happens in your body.

Breathing With Intention

Begin to breathe slowly and deliberately. Inhale gently through your nose for a count of four. Hold softly for a count of two. Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of six to eight, longer than your inhale.

This extended exhale is key. It signals to your nervous system that you're not in danger, that you can afford to slow down, that it's safe to come out of high alert. Continue this breathing pattern for several rounds until you notice something shift: a softening in your shoulders, a deeper breath, a subtle sense of settling. A sigh or a yawn is a common signal that your nervous system is shifting into more ease.

Soothing Touch

Place your hands gently on your chest, creating a light, soothing movement with just enough pressure to move your skin. Allow your touch to find a rhythm or direction that feels relaxing and connecting. Feel the warmth of your palms, the rhythm of your heartbeat beneath them.

This isn't just comfort, it's communication. Your nervous system responds to safe, caring touch the same way it responds to the extended exhale: by settling, by coming out of defense and into connection. Let your hands tell your body: You are safe. You are held. You are home.

Connecting With Your Inner Light

With your hands still resting on your chest, imagine a light inside you, maybe it's a flame, maybe it's a glow, maybe it's just a sense of warmth. This is your inner light, the same light that has been guiding you through every stage of your evolution.

Now speak these words, silently or aloud:

"I am a soul. I am the awareness that holds this form. I am whole, perfect, and evolving. I choose to trust my inner light."

Let the words settle. Notice any resistance that comes up, any part of you that argues with the words. Don't try to force the resistance away; just notice it and keep breathing. The resistance is just old programming, and it doesn't have to go away for the truth to be true.

Setting the Anchor

While you're in this settled state, create an anchor, a physical gesture your body can associate with this feeling of presence and peace. Choose something simple and natural: gently squeeze the thumb of your non-dominant hand, place your hand on your heart with a soft tapping rhythm, or press your thumb and forefinger together. It needs to be a gesture that isn't a normal movement so your nervous system receives it as a unique signal.

As you hold this gesture, say, "This is peace. This is presence. This is calm."

This is your anchor. With practice, your nervous system will begin to associate this gesture with the centered state you're creating now, making it easier to return to peace even in difficult moments. When stress rises or old patterns try to pull you back, this gesture reminds you to quickly return to peace and ease.

Returning

Take a few more breaths. Notice how you feel compared to when you started. You don't need to feel dramatically different; even a small shift is significant. That small shift is your nervous system learning something new.

Carry this practice with you. Return to it whenever it's needed. Each time you practice this gesture while in a state of calm, you reinforce the anchor.

Reflection Questions

Take some time to sit with these questions. You might journal your responses, discuss them with someone you trust, or simply hold them in meditation. It's okay if you don't have answers right away.

  1. Where in your life have you been approaching yourself as something that needs to be fixed? What would shift if you began to see that same area as part of your evolution?

  2. What beliefs about brokenness have you absorbed from family, culture, or the people around you? What would it take to stand in your own truth even if it differs from theirs?

  3. Where in your body do you feel the truth of "you're not broken"? Where do you feel the resistance to that truth? Can you hold both with compassion?

Sometimes the flight is turbulent, and sometimes we fall. What matters most is that we get up again.

Eighteen more chapters follow this one in the book.
